At Rhodes, Anna specialised in writing and editing under the expert guidance of lecturers Anthea Garman, Gillian Rennie, Simon Pamphilon and the Grocott’s Mail editorial staff. She completed a long-form elective with acclaimed South African writer Rian Malan as her mentor. She graduated in the top 10 percent of her academic year, with honours and a spot on the Dean’s list for academic excellence.
After Rhodes, she obtained a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from English Access, which allowed her to fulfill her small-town-girl dreams of seeing the world.
In 2018, Anna completed a short course in digital marketing through the University of Cape Town and GetSmarter.
Anna writes book reviews for the Sunday Times and financial services content for Accenture and Discovery. She also does ad hoc writing projects for clients from different industries and across platforms.
She earned her stripes in books journalism at Sunday Times Books LIVE in South Africa. In 2014, she won a City Press Travel Writing Competition for a story about her travels to Japan. She’s held different titles, including commissioning editor (Rhodes Journalism Review), social media manager (Rhodes School of JMS), print and digital editor (COVER Publications), and travel writer. Now she can also add the title “digital marketer” to her arsenal of skills.
